Shield Building

A magickal shield depends upon focus. Some folks refer to this as Will. My method of teaching someone to bring a safe place into reality is to literally bring it into reality.So, my friend was instructed to get a plain cardboard box (in good shape) and a set of vividly colored and rather thick paints - like finger paints - and a paint brush. Cut the top off the box. Sit down and contemplate just what you want this safe spot to be like. Mine is a castle with thick brick walls. I've painted the bricks on the walls and created painted towers. I'm no artist, I know what all those lines mean. (smile)Decide if you want doors or windows and what kind they will be. I opted for no doors and a teleport pad. Some people use thick wooden doors with big bars and a drawbridge. Some people make it a bank vault. Whatever works. Don't neglect the inside. This is your safe place. I made gardens, trees, streams, a place to sleep, a place to eat, etc. Make sure you have everything you need there. Not necessarily everything you want, but NEED. Really focus while you're making your castle or cave or vault or . . . you get the picture.

When you're done you now have a visual representation of a safe place you have created on this plane and in a magickal sense. Eckists would refer to it as being on the astral plane. At this point you may not need the box anymore. If not, you should dispose of it in a way that doesn't demean it. Don't throw it in the trash. Perhaps you could burn it, thereby returning its elements to Nature. Explore your safe place and learn the feel of it's walls and the energetic resonance of it.

One way to deal with a very stressful situation is to "go" to your safe place and retreat behind the walls. Since the top is open you can see out. Oh, yeah, you might want to put some sort of energy bubble over the top to keep things out that you don't want in. (smile)This is a very good method to begin working with shields and safe place constructions. Especially for those new to magickal workings it provides a hands on method for creating a magickal construct.

If you have runes or symbols that are meaningful to you, be sure to add them to your shield.Later, when you're used to the feel of the shielding energy of this place, you can simply reach out and put a piece of it in front of you or around you. Vortex shielding is a bit more complex. I didn't get into working with vortices for awhile because it took me time to a) get one going larger than my little finger and b) control what happened once it left my hand.

For those who are presently adept at working with energy balls, triangles, rectangles, etc. you might want to take a stab at creating an energy vortex.Saono figured out how to do it first and suggested I create a little energy ball on a fingertip, then start it spinning around the fingertip faster and faster until it turned into a vortex. I visualized it like the swirl in a glass of water when being stirred rapidly. It was kinda like having a bitty tornado dancing around on your fingertip. Getting rid of a vortex, like an energy ball, is as easy as grounding it out on the ground or clapping your hands and catching the energy field in the clap, thereby disrupting it.

However, for me, directing it at something was a bit more difficult as it has a rotation to consider. Later on, this is quite a useful device in charging amulets, candles, crystals, etc. because you can raise energy and simply direct it into whatever you wish. However, early on it is much easier to press energy into a candle or crystal. A vortex can also be a very powerful shield. I've had one set around my house in Anchorage that was designed to snap psychic vampire connections between my daughter and the neighborhood psychic vampire. It acted a bit like a gigantic circular saw. Additionally, a vortex, like an energy ball, can be adjusted for color. I don't remember exactly when we figured out they could be mirrored.
