The first part of learning to feel energy and work with it involves detecting it as a part of your aura and learning to make energy balls with it. If you are unfamiliar with ways to open the palm chakras you might want to spend a few moments in the following exercise: With the right palm up and the left palm down open and close the hand rapidly perhaps ten times. Then reverse the directionality of the hands. Do this two or three times. If you are sighted, I recommend closing your eyes at this point as vision can detract from the experience. Hold your arms out in front of you as if you were inviting someone in for a hug - apart but with the palms facing each other. Very gradually, bring them towards each other. At a certain point - it might be just an inch or two apart, you will feel a certain resistance. I liken this to putting two magnets against each other so that the poles push against each other (North/North or South/South).
What you are feeling at this point is the energy contained in one of the lower layers of your aura. You might want to take some time and feel the aura over various areas of your body by skimming your hands over your aura. Most people will find differences at the solar plexus, heart, throat, forehead, and top of the head in terms of the degree of energy. Later on this will become important in terms of healing energies. When you are first starting to make energy balls I recommend the creation process take place with eyes closed - again to reduce stimulation that can distract. After the first couple of times eyes open or closed is no problem and for some people the stimulation issue might not be a problem either.
To create an energy ball hold the hands just far enough apart that you can "bounce" the palms against the energy of the other palm. The method I use for creating an energy ball is to take a long, slow breath in, then release that breath slowly focusing on the space between my hands. I "blow" the energy into that space, creating in my mind a glowing orb of energy. One of the first things that seems to happen is that folks cheerfully blow away, making their energy ball larger and larger until suddenly - oh dear, they've got an energy ball the size of a wrecking ball. Hmm! Now what?
Energy balls are easily dissipated by dropping them on the floor, clapping one's hands together or tossing them at someone else. Just make sure if you are handing off energy to someone else they know that it's coming. (smile) If your hands are tingling you might want to shake them out as if they were wet and you're trying to get the water droplets off them. Another method is to place palms on the floor and ground it out that way. I've also "stripped" energy by literally pulling it or pushing it off the hand. Ideally, we want to create energy balls of manageable size - perhaps six inches or so across. Once you have created a stable energy ball try removing one hand. Then move it from one hand to another. Or, if you are fortunate enough to be with others, hand it to someone else. By this time, of course, you're working sighted (if you have sight).
Other things to do with energy balls: Make energy balls and turn them into: squares, triangles, cones, and rectangles. Make energy balls and experiment with temperature - hot, cold, neutral. Make energy balls and experiment with texture - soft, hard, prickly, etc. Make energy balls and color them. This is particularly effective with individuals who are able to visualize colors on an energetic level. If you learn how to make solid colors then make ones with dots, stripes and swirls. Visualize the colors with meaning - for instance green for healing, black to neutralize negativity, and red to warm an ailing body. Color is one of the most individual aspects of magick. It won't mean anything to a blind from birth individual who may well wish to use odors or textures instead and each sighted individual will probably have a different slant on what colors mean to them.
Once you have learned to create energy balls, roll them around on the floor as cat toys (my former HPS cat chased energy balls all around the house - chuckle) and hand them off to fellow energy workers you'll want to move on to infusing objects with energy.
