There is also a way of communicating with those on the other side utilizing candles. DW brought this one to my attention. One lights a candle, gets centered, concentrates on an individual or generically on the other side and then asks, "Is so and so present?" If the candle flame starts jumping around then you've got someone on the other side in attendance. I was somewhat concerned that the flame can be affected by even a slight outbreath so that when I began trying this out I sat in a room that was draft free and made sure I was several feet from the candle flame. I've had some steady flames with no response and a couple of wildly jumping flames. Then again, we've had an experience with a wildly flickering light bulb that responded to questioning - well, the light bulb didn't, but the spirit in the room did and the light bulb responded in kind. I understand it is quite difficult for spirits to manipulate energy in our space time continuum, but I imagine electricity or flame is some of the easiest.
I have not tried combining crystals and candles in the manner you mention. However, I have used a candle to charge a crystal or some other object. When using a charged candle to create additional energy for a talisman, medicine bag, or amulet, I place the object to be charged as close as possible to the base of the candle and visualize the energy produced by the candle being absorbed into the object to be charged. I actually haven't done this for awhile because it seems to be much easier for me to simply draw and charge on my own.
One of the things I have found candle energy is quite good for is dispelling negativity and promoting harmony. DW and I have a friend who was going through a divorce. A local psychic with an excellent track record for accuracy had predicted a very nasty divorce. What to do? In our case we held a drumming at the house of a friend where many friends of the person getting divorced were in attendance. We raised energy through the drumming and DW directed it into a candle purchased for the occasion - a large pillar candle. We directed the person getting the divorce to burn it whenever he and his wife were together. Amazingly enough, his wife began asking him to burn the candle whenever they were together and working on the divorce. There were a few tough times and tense moments - sometimes over seemingly inconsequential items - but overall it was an easy transition for both of them. They are now able to be thankful for the good years they had together, their children are not traumatized, they can wish each other well and go on with their lives as friends rather than as bitter enemies.
I do like candles and it seems I have one burning a great deal of the time. I have had one burning for days for a friend in order to provide her with strength and resolve. I've used them for long distance healing as well. I never considered the inequity of the burn between candles of various pigments. I'm certainly glad you mentioned that.
