A Greek historian of the 5th century B.C , described in the second book of his Histories the annual festival of Bast, whom he equated with the Greek Goddess Artemis. He estimated the festival attracted more than 700,000 people each year. Excavations in the area where Babastis was located have uncovered cat cemeteries with large numbers of mummified cats and cat figurines, which were perhaps dedicated to Bast during her festival. That appears to be all there is in the actual historical stuff I could find, the following is a little more modern I would say. (*smile*)
Names...Greek Names Arttimis, Kore ArtemisBast is a Tameran ( ancient Egyptian) Goddess.Ta-Mera is one of several native names for the Two Lands of The Nile.In ancient artwork, Bast is typically shown as a beautifull girl with the head of a cat. She is commonly shown with black, white, yellow, or glowing skin. Sometimes she is shown as a light skinned European with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She is often show as fully Cat.Bastet is the name of Bast when She is in fully cat form....Pasch is recorded in extremely ancient documents as being a older version of her name . We get the modern English word "passion" from PaschBast is a extremely ancient Goddess, long predating writing. She had many , sometimes contradictory roles. Beliefs about Bast evolved over thousands of years and the views under the Old Kingdom were significantly different than the Greco-Roman views, not to mention the wide variety of modern versions.
